How long does it take to charge an electric car?
Depends on the EV. If it has singles phase onboard AC charger it may take 6-8 hours. Or just 1 hour with power 22 kW onboard system. DC charging usually takes 30-50 minutes to 80%.
What is the range of electric cars?
Again, depends on the vehicle. From 100 km for older EVs up to 500 km or even more with hypemiling for the modern cars like Tesla Model S, Chevy Bolt and others.
Is there enough charging stations?
In 2018 there's already over 60,000 charging stations around Europe. The vase majority of them is AC chargers. Installation pace is very high and we expect by 2022 there will be several hundred thousand. Couple of thousand of them DC chargers.

Questions about electric vehicles charging
How do I charge an electric vehicle?
First, let's devide charing in two modes – slower and mass AC charging and faster DC charging. To AC charge an electric vehicle you plug a standard Type 2 cable in the car and in the charging station. DC charging stations have their own cables which you plug in car's DC charging socket. You can also charge every electric car via standard wall socket (Euro - Schuko). It takes a lot of time though (6, 8, 10 or more hours) and using charging station is safer.
Where can I find charging stations?
You can find lots of charging stations via mobile or desktop map.unevers.com application. Alternatively there's also other charging networks across Europe. To use certain network/service you generally download an app. Most apps provide easy ways to find, use and pay for electric vehicle charging. There's charging stations at thousands of hotels, restaurants, retail stores or just on the streets around Europe.
How do I pay for electric vehicle charging?
Most networks provide mobile apps so you can resigter and pay on the go. Most operator provide different payment solutions like credit/debit card, e-wallets or prepaid vouchers. Some hotels, restaurants or retail stores also accept cash payments, but generally only certified operators can sell electricity and charging services respectively. Some networks/operators sell services like parking spots rent per hour or minute, and not electricity.
Can someone unplug my car while charging?
This could only be an issue in rare cases with public charging. Generally your charging cable is locked in the charging station and in the car so only you can unlock and unplug it. Some charging stations my unlock the cable when session is finished, however, so it's possible another person to unplug your cable from the station. There's also the vandalism issue, which, while also rare, can result in broken/stolen cables.
Is it safe to charge when raining?
Yes, you can charge your elecrtic vehicle when raining, but you you should only use charging stations rated for outdoor usage. Before you plug the cable in the charging station make sure water does not enter the cable plug holes. Once the plug is inserted (assuming terminals are dry) charging is safe. You better avoid outdoor charging in heavy rainfall or thunderstorms conditions however. Charging outdoors when snowing is also generally safe.
How do I charge my EV if I don't own a garage?
You can charge at public or workplace charging stations, either AC or DC. You can also charge on the go at different restaurants or retail store parking lots. Some of them even provide free charging. Because there's different charging operators or networks it can be a bit inconvenient to register with more of them and carry RFID cards. You will most likely also need to download different mobile apps.
Questions about charging stations and installation
Why do I need a charging station?
Electric vehicle AC charging station is a special device that guarantees safe and quick charging compared to standard wall socket. The charging station is equipped with Type 2 standard socket or cable to plug into your car. This guerantees easy and realiable charging, and also ensures there is no damage or harm to the electrical grid or the car. 50 kW and up DC charging stations cannot be installed at home and are intended for public usage.
How to choose and decide what charging station to buy?
We start be dividing it in two - if you already have an EV and if you plan to buy one. If you've got your car and want to add a charger, then it depends on the car. If you own Hyundai IONIQ, for example, then we recommend 7.4 kW single-phase charging station. If your car is Renault ZOE or BMW i3 (after 7.2016), we recommend 22 kW three-phase charger. And if you still don't have an EV, but want to install a charging station upfront, take into account the type of car you will buy and follow our recommendations. What do I need to consider before installing my charging station?
This is related to the type of charging station you want to install. You need to first check if you have the available power by asking your utility provider (if you don't already know). Then you need to choose where you want the charger installed and if it's possible. If you are not sure we are happy to provide consultation which would save you a lot of time and money. You also have to consider if you need a permission for the installation from a landlord or neighbours. Last but not least bear in mind there may be construction work needed, like new cables laying and electrical system modification. Upgrading the power usually requires a permission from the utility operator with respective fees.
How much does it cost to install a charging station?
It depends on the available electrical power on-site and also the charging station power, required modification to existing electrical system wiring and components. You can expect from €300-400 cost of single-phase charging station and almost no mods, up to around €2,000 for 22 kW charging station and/or significant additional installation procedures like cable laying and construction/electrical system modifications.
What does my electrician need to consider when installing an EV charger?
Several factors need to be considered by your electrian before installation. The two most important are available electrical power and type of charging station. Existing cabling needs to be examined as well. For example, if you have 10 kW power available to set aside for charging, but want to install 22 kW charger, additional power has to be rewuested from the utility. Electrian also needs to consider digging for cable laying and/or wall penetrations etcetera. Finally, the wiring, circuit breakers and RCDs may need to be installed in your electric junction.
Can I connect the charging station to my solar system?
Yes, the Unevers team offers such service and it's actually very popular because it allows people to charge their EVs with clean and cheap electricity. When wiring a charging station to a photovoltaic system, available power needs to be considered. If your system can provide 5 or 10 kw of power, but you want to install a 22 kW charging station, you won't be able to use it's maximum power, unless you upgrade the solar system or combine the charging station power with the electrical grid.
General electric mobility questions
What is the energy consumption of electric vehicles?
First, the good news is it still measures as units pers 100 km. The difference from ICE cars is that EVs consumption is measured as kWh/100 km. On average modern EVs use 13-18 kWh / 100 km. Some, like Tesla Model S or X use 20 or more kWh/100 km. Consumption may be (much) higher in certain consitions like uphill, cold weather or very dynamic driving. If you charge your EV at home, 100 km driving will typically cost around €3-4 in most EU countries. Rates can be (sometimes much) higher at operator charging stations.
What is the electric vehicles range on a single charge?
Every EV has a specific range, affected by weather conditions, driving style and terrain. Most of the 2011-2016 EVs provide a range of around 120-170 km, with the exception of Tesla's vehicles which can go 400 km and more. Since 2017 a new generation of middle class (cheaper) EVs hit the market, with ranges up to 400 km per charge. We expect this to be the norm in the next 4-5 years. Meanwhile longer range EVs will inevitable come to market to ensure 500 km or more per charge.
What are electric vehicles advantages and benefits?
EVs are fun to drive, very dynamic, quiet and good for the environment. Consider this - even when you go to a distant hotel or cottage at the top of the mountain, you can still charge your EV, because you have an access to electricity. EVs are also very cheap to drive and lower significantly business transportation operating costs You also benefit from very low maintenance cost as EVs have much less parts to service than traditional combustion engine car. In addition, when charged from solar systems or by wind generated electricity, EVs are even cleaner to drive. Last but not least, EVs tend to make people calmer, because of the lack of roarring engine noise that can pump up adrenaline.
Where can I get repair/maintanance service for my electric car?
In these first years of spreading the electric mobility service and maintenance is carried exclusively by respective car manufacturers. Independent car shops are still not able to provide EV repairs/service, with very few exceptions. Reason is because special tools and training is needed for mechanics. In most cases you will be able to get your EV serviced where you bought it from or in the respective manufacturer network. But generally EVs require much less service and repairs than traditional ICE cars.
What warranty can I expect for an electric vehicle?
Usually car manufacturers provide 5 to 8 years warranty on the EVs and/or traction battery. Make sure are ask before you buy an electric vehicle for the specific warranties. Most manufacturers offer battery warranty on a term/mileage basis, whichever comes first. For example, 8 years or 150,000 km. Some offer free battery replacement if capacity falls below certain percentage (like 75%) within warrany, in case it's a result of material defects and not somehow caused by the customer.
How long will an electric vehicle battery last?

Are electric vehicles safe?

How much does it cost to replace electric vehicle battery?
Това зависи от размера и вида на батерията, който отчасти се определя от превозното средство. На този етап батериите са все още скъпи, но е вероятно цените да се понижат, когато технология се подобри и обемите се увеличат. За повече информация на клиентите се препоръчва да разговарят с производителите, чиито сегашни модели се предлагат с 8-10 години гаранция на батерията. Някои произвводители предлагат батерията отделно на лизинг, с което продажната цена на електромобила се понижава значително.
Will climate control/heater/headlights deplete battery faster?
Да, до известна степен това влияе на пробега. Както и при конвенционалните превозни средства, прекаленото използване на климатика влияе на разхода на енергия. Автопроизводителите вече прилагат интелигентни решения за намаляване на консумацията, като светодиодни предни и задни светлини и ефикасни климатични системи. При възможност затопляйте/охлаждайте своя електромобил преди да го използвате, докато се зарежда - така обстановката при качване ще бъде комфортна, а батерията пълна. През зимата е препоръчително да използвате отоплението на седалките, вместо 'парното', а през лятото да охлаждате колата докато е паркирана и се зарежда, и по възможност да не отваряте прозорците по време на движение.
EVs are silent. Does this make them dangerous for pedestrians?
Електромобилите са по-тихи от автомобилите с двигатели с вътрешно горене, защото електромоторът произвежда много по-малко шум в сравнение с традиционния двигател.
